Tradition in Transition: A Postcard from Cali (TRAILER) from Quantic on Vimeo.

Quantic and his Combo Bárbaro - Tadition in Transition

Since he settled in Cali, Holland has set up an analogue studio and recorded and released two albums (2007’s highly lauded ‘Tropidelico’ by The Quantic Soul Orchestra; and the debut from his tropical-dub side project Quantic Presenta Flowering Inferno, in 2008) featuring some of the cream of Cali musicianship. Upon realising the potency and sheer depth of quality present in these players, Holland assembled his Combo Bárbaro (literally translating as ‘group of barbarians or people from outside Europe’) to take up the baton from The Quantic Soul Orchestra in the realisation of the next phase of his musical vision.

Quantic - Linda Morena

Am Montag, dem 08.06. erscheint nun eine weitere Vorab-Single-Auskopplung des Albums, „Linda Morena/Enyere kumbara“ (B-Seite: Non Lp-Track):

On the A side of this 7” you’ll find the glorious “Linda Morena”. Taken from the album, this guajira style song features the rich vocal tones of legendary Panamanian soul singer Kabir, who delivers the charmingly universal and simplistic hook lyric in a mixture of English and Spanish, against the complex musical backdrop that calls to mind the hot hustle and bustle of the Panama City in which the song is rooted. The AA side, “Enyere Kumbara” is a cover of a classic funk track, originally by Julian Angulo, a virtuoso guitarist hailing from the Pacific coast of Colombia. Quantic and his Combo Bárbaro seemed destined to record this song: pianist Alfredo Linareslayed on and arranged the original recording back in the ‘70s, and used to play the song live on a regular basis with Angulo’s band; as it happens, these shows took place in a hotel right next door to the house in which Will Holland now lives in Cali.
